I am wanting to get a fully rugged computer with a webcam for my soon to be husband. He will be going to Afgan this September and I thought it would be a wonderful wedding present. That way he will be able to stay in touch with our daughter and I. Unfortuantely I don’t have any extreme amount of funds. All laptops that I have seen our 3,000 + dollars.. Thanks in advance for all the help!

I have a broken laptop screen and an external computer screen that in the past would automatically convert over to once the laptop was turned on, however lately it hasn’t been going over to the external screen. Anybody got any suggestions?

Theres a key on the keyboard that tells the laptop to switch between internal screen(lcd) and external screen(monitor).

Usually you press fn+some other key.
Look at the key symbols and find one that looks like 2 monitors.

hold fn and press that button to cycle between the monitors.

Know what you need/want BEFORE you go in the store. I’m talking memory, performance, screen size, ability to expand with your use needs. Research all of this first then go into the store. Walmart isn’t known for deep selection in their computers so you could very easily be disappointed if you just went in there cold buying the cheapest thing they have.

I replaced my computer last year and decided on all the specs first. I gave went to a higher end store first to get an idea of availability (they had everything I needed and more) and it’s price. I checked a few other stores including Walmart. Walmart only had 3 different computers to choose from that day and no where close to the specs I needed. Very low speed and memory-and my spec requirements really aren’t much compared to most users I’m sure. What they offered honestly only catered to first-time buyers, folks that only needed something to get on the web and to do basic word processing. So, do your homework first, then shop around. You may still find what you need at Walmart but laptops are very competitively priced right now-especially since new models will be hitting in the next few weeks!

How much does a laptop screen replacement cost? I was wondering because the only problem with an old computer of mine needs one. It’s a toshiba with windows xp home edition.
i was wondering if they even made replacements for it anymore or if they custom redo it every time.

It’s not that expensive, unless it’s a really old computer. Most laptop screens are $ 100-$ 200 on ebay or other spare part sites. Though putting a $ 200 screen in a computer that performs as well as a brand new $ 400 laptop might not be quite worth it. But you can easily replace it yourself, just so long you have the right sized screen.

I have a toshiba vista laptop that have an s video cord and also a panasonic 50 inch tv. I want to see my laptop screen on my tv so i bought an s video cord. I went home and plugged in both ways and changed my tv input but nothing came up. My laptop wasn’t able to detect the tv either. Please help and be specific because i am not very good and laptop tv things. Thanks.

You’ll probably have to enable the SVIDEO output on the laptop, which could be with a button on the keyboard. A lot of times the ALT or FUNCTION key plus another key enables it. Sometimes the key is above a number key and looks like a tv screen. The only other place it may be be able to be enabled is in the graphics properties. In vista that would be right click the desktop and click screen resolution, then go into advanced settings.

I will tell you though SVIDEO looks horrible unless your’e just watching a movie with it.

I have a HP HSTNN-CB72 laptop that I bought over a year ago. I’ve searched on the net and not been able to find batteries that I can buy to put in my laptop.
Anybody know if I can buy a new battery and from where (in the UK)

As your laptop is fairly new, you should be able to get a replacement one quite easy, I would stay clear from cheap ones you might find on ebay or similar, as loads are imports from china and therefore might not be genuine and my not be safe, have heard of stories of cheap ones over heating and catching fire.
PC World or curries are a good start, or go onto HP website, they might have online shop or certainly they will advise where you should be able to buy one.

My HP Pavilion laptop recently bit it. I would like to use the harddrive from it and, if possible, install it on a used laptop. But I want to make sure that it is compatible with a particular kind or brand of laptop.

HP laptops use generic PATA or SATA hard drives.
They are not proprietary.
