i now have an older IBM laptop that is not running too well. i really need a new one but cant seem to find any cheaper/nice ones. where can i find a laptop that is nice but that is cheaper. or if there are any cheap laptops that are nice. i dont want to spend $ 800 on a laptop. is that possible? PLEASE HELP!!
i mostly use AIM, Microsoft Word, processor, internet explorer, adobe reader, media center, i need to be able to download programs too. my old one doesnt allow me to do that. im going into Hs so i also want it to be able to read my printer in my family office( which my comp. doesnt do now.) i use most things a 14 year old would use.
i want a computer thats going to last me a while, this comp has only lasted me a year and the battery is shot. its stupid to buy a new battery for it. i dont mind spending $ 600-$ 700, but i want it to be worth it in the end.

Well, you said how much you DON’T want to spend… It’d be more useful if you told us what you DID want to spend.

Niceness is your opinion. The more you spend the better, the less the worse. We can show you the best laptop you can get for whatever price you want.

Also, if you said what function you want it to serve it would help. I’ll come back later and update if you add those things.

Question by Matthew J: How do you hook up a computer screen to a laptop with a broken screen?
I have a broken laptop screen and an external computer screen that in the past would automatically convert over to once the laptop was turned on, however lately it hasn’t been going over to the external screen. Anybody got any suggestions?

Theres a key on the keyboard that tells the laptop to switch between internal screen(lcd) and external screen(monitor).

Usually you press fn+some other key.
Look at the key symbols and find one that looks like 2 monitors.

hold fn and press that button to cycle between the monitors.

Know what you need/want BEFORE you go in the store. I’m talking memory, performance, screen size, ability to expand with your use needs. Research all of this first then go into the store. Walmart isn’t known for deep selection in their computers so you could very easily be disappointed if you just went in there cold buying the cheapest thing they have.

I replaced my computer last year and decided on all the specs first. I gave went to a higher end store first to get an idea of availability (they had everything I needed and more) and it’s price. I checked a few other stores including Walmart. Walmart only had 3 different computers to choose from that day and no where close to the specs I needed. Very low speed and memory-and my spec requirements really aren’t much compared to most users I’m sure. What they offered honestly only catered to first-time buyers, folks that only needed something to get on the web and to do basic word processing. So, do your homework first, then shop around. You may still find what you need at Walmart but laptops are very competitively priced right now-especially since new models will be hitting in the next few weeks!

I have a refurbished laptop, and it works great!

Check how much charge the battery holds before you purchase though, as sometimes the batteries can be problematic and they are expensive (in relation to the laptop cost) to replace.

On the whole, I recommend.
